How to Wash Dishes: A blog about dishwashing for the novice or nonexpert.
I am not a dishwasher expert. I have, however, washed many dishes in my time, and this blog is about the things I’ve learned along the way. I hope to answer questions like how to make your dishwashers last longer, but also how to wash dishes if you don’t have a dishwasher (which is what most of the world does). So let’s get started.
Before you begin washing dishes, you will need the following supplies:
• Dish soap
• Sponge
• Dish towel
• A sink full of hot water.
1. Place a small amount of dishwashing liquid in the palm of your hand. The soap should be about the size of a quarter. Add water, and work up a rich lather. You may need to add more soap if it is not sudsy enough.
2. Place the dish in your hand under lukewarm water from the faucet until all pieces are wet.
3. Apply soap to sponge and gently clean dishes starting with the least dirty surfaces first (ex: outside of cup or plate) so as not to transfer grease or food particles to already cleaned areas. Rinse the sponge frequently in warm water, and squeeze out the excess water before re-applying to the dishes.
4. Use one side of the sponge for washing and another side for rinsing; it is important to avoid re-contaminating clean dishes with dirty wash water. Using a separate dishrag can also help minimize cross-contamination on heavily soiled items such as pots and pans with baked on food particles or grease residue.
Don’t let people tell you that the dishwasher is a household essential. I grew up without one until I was in my twenties, and none of us died from lack of clean dishes.
Sure, dishwashers have their uses. But they take up valuable space in the kitchen and are more trouble than they’re worth for most people. Dishwashers are also environmentally unfriendly because they use too much energy and water compared to washing by hand.
To wash dishes by hand, you need only a few things:
• A sink full of hot soapy water
• Two bowls or basins: one for rinsing, one for soaking or holding dirty dishes
• A sponge or brush (with a holder)
• A draining rack or dish rack (optional)
• A dishtowel (optional)
Before doing the dishes, scrape off any food particles into the trash can or compost bin. Then soak heavily soiled items (such as pots and pans) to help soften caked-on food. Be sure to cover with water if soaking overnight. Next, wash glasses and cups first, then plates and bowls, then silverware and other utensils, and finally pots, pans, and cutting boards last.
Washing dishes is a tricky task, both dangerous and delicate. You need to learn how to wash dishes properly; otherwise you will risk damaging your plates, glasses and cutlery.

In this post, we’ll be discussing countertop dishwashers. These portable units are a great option for renters who do not wish to install a full-sized dishwasher in their home and for those homeowners with limited space. Our discussion will cover the following topics:
1) Why use a countertop dishwasher?
2) How do countertop dishwashers work?
3) What are some of the best countertop dishwashers on the market today?
Why use a countertop dishwasher?
Countertop dishwashers are an ideal solution for people living in small spaces, such as studio apartments or mobile homes. They require no installation, simply plugging into an electrical outlet and hooking up to your kitchen sink’s faucet with an included adapter. Countertop dishwashers are also less expensive than standard under-counter models. And they’re extremely easy to move if you’re relocating from one rental unit to another.
How do countertop dishwashers work?
Like full-sized models, most portable units have two spray arms that rotate inside the tub to clean dishes placed on the lower and upper racks. However, since these units are much smaller than standard models, they can only hold about four place settings at once
The portable countertop dishwasher is a highly desirable item for any home, especially the smaller kitchen. Since it is a portable model, it can be used in any room in the house, and if you choose to leave home temporarily you can take it with you. It comes in a variety of styles and colors that will match any decor. They are available at most home improvement stores and online through many retailers who specialize in consumer electronics.
