Famous people are always being described as ‘down-to-earth’ or ‘a real person’. This is because we find it hard to believe that anyone could be so talented, so good looking and so rich, and also be a nice person. But there are some famous people who are also terribly nice, and it’s lovely to meet them.
Once I was very lucky and met one of my favorite actors. He was even more handsome than I had imagined, but he was also extremely polite and friendly. I’m sure he would have talked to me for hours if his manager hadn’t come along and said he had to go. It made me feel like a celebrity too!
Once upon a time, I was a dishwasher. It wasn’t a great job, but it didn’t need to be. It’s not as if I were saving up for something big. I wasn’t planning to go on to bigger and better things. The idea of getting rich had never crossed my mind. I was just killing time, and it seemed as good a way to kill it as any.
I didn’t have anything against working for a living. My parents both worked for a living, and I figured that someday I would too– when the time came. But the time hadn’t come yet, and so I was killing time by washing dishes.
One day the manager called me into his office and told me they were downsizing and my job had been “eliminated.” He handed me an envelope with two weeks’ wages in it, and told me to not let the door hit me on the ass on the way out.
That was fine with me; I’d be happy never to see a dish again as long as I lived. But there was one thing about being fired that bothered me: what would I tell people who asked what I did? People didn’t ask often, but still occasionally enough that it would be awkward not to have
If you could have dinner with any 3 people, who would they be?
