About gDishWashers
What gDishWashers Covers — and Doesn’t
gDishWashers is an independent, advertising-supported site about dishwashers and kitchen appliances. It is not a manufacturer, retailer, or repair service, and it is not affiliated with any dishwasher brand, appliance maker, utility company, or energy-efficiency standard it mentions. What keeps the lights on here is display advertising, not sales commissions or sponsorships tied to any particular brand.
The site covers dishwasher buying decisions, running costs, cycles and features, and the repair-versus-replace question. It does notoffer professional appliance repair, electrical, or plumbing advice, and it can’t diagnose your specific machine. The calculators below turn numbers you enter — your electricity rate, water rate, cycle length, household size — into estimates built on standard formulas and general appliance and energy conventions. They are a planning aid, not a certified reading of your appliance. For anything mechanical, electrical, or plumbing-related, follow your dishwasher’s manual and use a qualified technician.
The Tools
Six free calculators, each built around one concrete question:
- Dishwasher Running Cost Calculator — adds up electricity, water, and detergent per cycle from your own utility rates to price a cycle, a week, and a year.
- Energy Cost Calculator — turns any appliance’s wattage and daily run time into kilowatt-hours and prices it against your electricity rate.
- Water Usage Calculator — totals the water a dishwasher draws per cycle and how often you run it, then prices it against your water rate.
- Dishwasher vs Handwashing Calculator — compares the water a dishwasher uses against hand washing over a week and a year, so you can see which actually uses less.
- Loading Capacity Calculator — estimates the dishwasher size that fits your household from how many people you cook for and how often you run a load.
- Repair or Replace Calculator — applies the 50% rule to weigh a repair quote against a new machine and the appliance’s remaining life.
Every one of them is free, runs in the browser, and asks for your own numbers rather than guessing at averages. The full set lives on the tools page.
Guides, the Blog, and the Museum
Alongside the calculators, the blog and guides cover buying advice, cycles and features, detergents, and troubleshooting for common dishwasher problems. For a change of pace, the Kitchen & Home Appliances Museumis a browsable gallery of the machines that run the modern home — kitchen appliances, washers and vacuums, and the motors and hand tools that came before them — with every entry, image, and fact drawn from Wikipedia and Wikimedia Commons.
