From the Laundry Room to the Kitchen…Change How You Wash Your Dishes

While I try to never have dirty dishes, I hate washing by hand. So when my husband and I finally decided to remodel our kitchen, we knew having a dishwasher was a necessity.

As part of the remodel, we also decided to go with a black and white color scheme. Black cabinets, white counter tops and back splash. We loved the clean lines and simplicity of this look. And it really makes the room feel open and airy, especially since our kitchen is in the back corner of our house… it’s kind of like an after thought. (You can see a few more before pictures here).

So why is this important? Well, as part of the remodel, we did not want any dishwashers that were visible. This meant that we needed one that was panel ready (meaning you can put your own custom panel on it so it matches your cabinets). This seemed easy enough: get a panel ready dishwasher and buy the matching cabinet panels from either Bosch or Thermador (our two choices for appliances) and voila – you have a dishwasher that matches your black cabinetry. Except…

Well it turns out that these two companies don’t make black cabinet panels for their dishwashers anymore! Our options were

As a young girl I always wanted a dishwasher. I remember my mom and grandmother standing at their sinks doing dishes by hand. It seemed like such a monumental task. I thought, someday when I am grown up and have my own house, I will have a dishwasher!

I am now grown up and have my own house. My husband and I have been living in our home for 2 1/2 years. We were lucky enough to find a home that had everything on our wish list (except for the black kitchen, but that’s another story). What wasn’t on our wish list? A dishwasher.

While I was busy researching our kitchen renovation and making decisions about what appliances to buy, I had never once considered a black dishwasher. But when it was all said and done, that’s exactly what we ended up with. It’s an older model, and the only color available at the time of purchase. And while I’m not crazy about it at first, it has grown on me over the last few months.

The first thing I noticed after having this dark appliance in my kitchen was how much dirtier it looked than my white one. All the dust, lint and dog hair that shows up on everything in my house really stands out on black. Not to mention fingerprints, streaks and smudges.

I’ve also noticed that our dishes look dirty even after they’ve been cleaned in the dishwasher. The contrast between the white dinner plates and black racks makes them look like they still need to be washed. I’m constantly inspecting each one before putting them away to make sure they are clean!

I’ve had a black dishwasher since I first moved into my kitchen in 2003. It was the only color available at that time. As a result, I’ve had to be very careful about what detergent I use because it shows up as white residue on black plastic. My first major discovery was that Cascade Complete did not leave any residue. Unfortunately, Cascade Complete was only available in powder form and I prefer liquid (I grew up with powder when liquid was too expensive). The alternative I found that works well is Finish Quantum, which is a gel. It’s easy to open the gel packets and pour it directly into the detergent cup without having to measure anything.

So, as you may or may not know, I have a black dishwasher. And while it makes my kitchen look very sleek and modern, it also makes me look like a total lazy person. It’s been too long since I posted on this blog and I felt the need to write about something – even if it is a small, insignificant topic.

Here’s what happened:

I was talking to my husband about some dishes in the sink. He had done them earlier that day, but for some reason there were still a few in the sink when I went to do them before bed. I asked him why he didn’t finish up the dishes after he washed them. He said he had been doing them for awhile and was tired of doing them and just left them in the sink for me to get to later when it was closer to bedtime (he works earlier than I do). This seemed like a reasonable response, so I didn’t think much of it until I went into the kitchen later that night to put those dishes away and noticed that there were some dirty dishes in the dishwasher as well!*

Black dishwashers are one of the most popular choices for many people for various reasons. Black dishwashers may be chosen because they match the décor and style of your kitchen or perhaps because they are just a nice change from the normal white dishwasher that everyone has. You can also find black dishwashers in stainless steel which is an ideal choice for those who have stainless steel appliances.

Many people choose black appliances to complement their current kitchen décor or to make a change from the basic white appliances they have always had. Black dishwashers can also be found in stainless steel. These black dishwashers with stainless steel fronts are ideal for many homes as they will complement the other stainless steel appliances nicely.

There are many brands of black dishwashers available and you can find them in all price ranges and in various styles as well. There are some people who choose a different color for each appliance, such as black on the refrigerator, but then choose another color for the stove and so on. This is a great way to add some unique style to any room in your home while still having things match.

If you’re looking for a dishwasher, then you’ve come to the right place. I’ve done all the research and found the best dishwashers in every price range.
